Gaucho - Restart | #1 DevLog

Hello subway explorers! We have great news about Gaucho for you, and this will be the first monthly Devlog we will be publishing.

We were selected for the MPVP mentorship

MPVP is a mentorship program provided by the Argentine Video Game Developers Association (ADVA). This means that Gaucho was selected among many other competing games to be one of this year's 13 mentees. People with extensive experience in the international development industry will be guiding and accompanying us in this 6-month process during which the mentorship will last.

For our team, Symbio Studio, it is clearly a call to get to work, because there is really little time for everything we want to do.

Goals

Our pillars at Gaucho are that it be an Action, Exploration, and RPG game. But our most important pillar is the dynamic action of our fights with colossal enemies.

We are mainly focused on improving these combats as much as possible, preparing a fun and distinctive set of weapons, and generating solid patterns of enemy attacks. For this, we built our own test scene on Unity. By hitting a training dummy, we will polish the controls and general sensations of combat.

Thinking big

Currently, Gaucho was designed to be played only on PC, limiting the controls to this platform. Our mentor encouraged us to continue our development thinking about bringing it to consoles, and this led us to rethink the mechanics of the controls. Where before it was just point and click, which is extremely annoying from a joystick, now we have developed a system that allows us to assist and accommodate damage points to enemies.

It will greatly help to reduce the inaccuracy of the joysticks, but you will also have to do your part to accommodate the cursor.

Character redesign

We were also working a lot on the main plot of the game and the setting we want to give it. This led us to give a more serious and darker aesthetic to our protagonist.

What do you think about this change? We will read your comments.

Lots of new changes

Our work for these 6 months has just begun. There will be a lot of new changes coming, and we will inform you of each of these through our monthly DevLog and also on our social networks. Now, you have to play our current Gaucho DEMO for a little while longer, and you will see how much it will change over time.
